Lawn Weed and Feed

GroSmart Lawn Fertilizer

LAWN:

The most important thing you can do for your lawn is feed it! A well-fed lawn can better withstand heat, cold, drought, mowing, foot traffic and other stresses. Feeding your lawn in the spring strengthens roots, fights against weeds and provides a good start for the heavy growing season. If you sprayed your weeds in January; fertilize your yard with the GroSmart spring fertilizer program. Apply Ferti-Lome weed and feed AFTER you have cut your lawn twice.

BEDS, SHRUBS AND TREES:

Fertilizers contain Nitrogen, Phosphorous, and Potassium. In simple terms that means it greens up your plants, stimulated blooms and enriches the roots.
We recommend Florikan 12.6.6. It is a great 3 month, all purpose, slow release fertilizer.

This should be applied to your flower beds, as well as any trees, shrubs and seasonal color.

You should fertilize your lawn and shrubs 3 times a year with these slow release granular products. MARCH / JUNE/ SEPTEMBER
ALL of these products are available at Plant Tech

Stop weeds and bugs before they happen

Dimension is a pre-emergent herbicide that prevents weed seeds from germinating in your flower beds. Sprinkle over your existing beds every three months year round. Spring, Summer, Fall

Bug Blaster is a granular insecticide that should be applied to your flowerbeds and yard to keep out most bugs and insects.
Includes: Ants, Grubs, Fleas, Ticks and Chinch bugs

Prune
Time to prune Sasanquas & Knock Out Roses
Cut back knockout roses 3 times a year to have full, bloom filled shrubs. Cut them as soon as they are done blooming. Don’t be afraid to cut them hard this time of year . Pruning allows the roses to flush out and become full.

Before After

Cut your roses at your desired height and fertilize!

If you want a beautiful weed free lawn this spring, now is the time to get started. We recommend spraying your weeds before you fertilize your lawn. By spraying while your grass is dormant, you are able to directly treat your weeds before new sod growth develops this spring. A mixture of Atrazine and Weed Free Zone targets a majority of the most aggressive weeds in our climate.

Atrazine controls both emerged weeds as well as weed from seed in St. Augustine and Centipede grass. *Only use during the cold months. Do NOT spray near trees.
Weed Free Zone controls over 80 of the toughest to control broadleaf weeds like clover, ivy, button weed, thisle, and virgina button weed. * Can be applied year round.
Both of these products are available at Plant Tech

Prune your Crepe Myrtles

Crepe Myrtles bloom on new growth BUT there is no need to butcher your trees to get more blooms. Pruning correctly prevents turning a beautiful Crepe Myrtle into ugly stumps. Follow these simple tips for proper pruning.
*Never cut more than 12– 15” off of each branch.
*Never cut a branch that is larger than a pencil.
*Prune any suckers coming from the base.
*You can also prune any side branches growing from the main trunk, but be selective.
Correct pruning can create a well spaced main branch with nice bark and beautiful blooms.

Preventatives!!

Instead of spraying for insects in the spring put out a Systemic Insecticide NOW!

A systemic is applied to the ground and incor-porates itself through the plant and into the leaves. This is not a contact kill chemical, it prevents the insects from eating the pant. Thus preventing Aphids and Sooty mold!!!
